Skip Hire FAQs

Maybe you’re renting a skip for the first time or just want to get up to date on the current rules and regulations? Hiring such a great piece of equipment can seem quite daunting. We here at Skip It Recycling have put together an FAQ to help answer some of the most common questions asked when needing a significant waste removal service.

  • What can I put in my skip?

You can put a multitude of different items in a skip for waste removal. This includes most common household items such as wood, soil, rubble, plastic, metal, garden waste, furniture, non-electrical fittings, domestic waste, cardboard and bricks. The type of waste does depend on the size of the skip you’re wishing to hire, for example, you’ll struggle to fit old kitchen fittings in a two-yard mini skip.

  • What can’t I put in the skip?

There are certain restrictions on what you can put in a skip that you hire. These items mainly include hazardous waste materials such as asbestos, gas cylinders neither full or empty, chemical waste, medical waste tyres, Electrical goods including TVs and computers, plasterboard, fluorescent bulbs and tins of paint. There are many reasons why these materials can’t be accepted, mostly due to their harmful nature when disposed of incorrectly. For more information on how to dispose of these materials, contact your local council.

  • What types of skips are available?

At skip It Recycling, we have a variety of different skip sizes available for all of your waste removal needs. We provide seven types of skips that range in size and need:

  • 2-Yard Mini
  • 4-Yard Small
  • 6-Yard Midi
  • 8-Yard Medium
  • 10-Yard Large
  • 12-Yard Maxi
  • Roll on/Roll off Industrial

With all of our widely available skips for hire, we’re sure we can help you with your waste removal job, big or small.

  • What size do I need?

What size skip you need will depend on how much waste you’re needing to remove and the type of waste. For example, if you’re stripping a property you will need a considerably bigger skip, than if you were remodelling a bathroom. If you’re not sure what size skip you’ll need, or want further advice call us and speak to one of our friendly team who can give you advice and guidance on the right skip size for you.

  • Do I need permission for a skip?

If you are planning to have your skip on a public road that is not part of your property, you will have to get permission from the local authority. Luckily we are able to take that worry off of your hands and do this step for you. If you are planning to have the skip on private property, you do not need a permit.

  • How long will I have the skip?

Here at Skip It Recycling, we understand that every project is unique and require their own time-frame. Luckily, we have flexible hire duration available for your individual needs. Get in touch and we can come to an arrangement to suit you.

  • How full can the skip be?

There is a misconception that a skip can be filled to the very top and even over. Just because it doesn’t fall from the skip when it’s stationary does not mean that it will not fall when removing. It’s very important that the skip does not overflow past the fill line. This can be avoided by making sure you have an adequately sized skip for your waste removal needs. When the skip is full to the adequate level, we will come and remove the skip along with the waste.

  • What happens to the waste?

When your skip is full and we come to take it away, you may be wondering what happens to your waste once it’s gone? In today’s eco-conscious society, we hold a huge responsibility to do our part for the environment. We take the collected waste to our Waste Material Transfer Facility in Westbury where we sort and separate as much as we can for recycling, which is often up to 90%. The remainder then goes to landfill.

  • I need a long-term, regular waste removal contract. Can you help?

Here at Skip It Recycling, we can definitely work with you to create a regular collection contract. Maybe you’re a business or builder and need regular, reliable waste removal? We can provide the best regular skip waste removal service for your needs in Westbury, Trowbridge and the surrounding areas.
